The 9 Miles Project
Turning Elandsbaai's youth from observers of the tourism economy into active participants — trained, paid, and respected.
What Is 9 Miles?
The 9 Miles Project is Elandsbaai's youth development initiative. Named after the long stretch of beach that defines our coastline, the program trains local young people (aged 16–20) in three streams:
🏄 Surf Coaching
Youth earn their surf instructor certifications and lead afternoon sessions for visiting families. Thandi — our first Level 2 coach — now runs the summer program. The certification is funded entirely by platform commissions.
🏠 Property Management
Young adults learn to manage guest check-ins, handle cleaning schedules, and maintain properties. They become the bridge between property owners and visitors — professional, reliable, and local.
🔧 Maintenance & Concierge
From fixing leaky taps to delivering firewood — our youth learn practical trades while serving the tourism economy. Every service booked through the platform creates paid work for local young people.
