The Problem
Elandsbaai is one of the last unspoiled stretches of the West Coast. Every summer, visitors arrive — surfers chasing the point break, families looking for quiet, anglers drawn by the cold Atlantic. But the platforms that connect them to our homes take up to 17% of every booking. That money flows to Amsterdam, San Francisco, or Johannesburg. It never comes back.
The result? Our village generates tourism value but captures almost none of it. Property owners pay commissions to platforms that do nothing for our schools, our youth, or our coastline.
The Solution
Elandsbaai Stays is a community-owned booking platform. We charge 10% — not 17%, not 15%, not even 12%. Just 10%. And every cent of that commission stays in Elandsbaai.
The commission funds are transparent. They go towards:
- Youth training — the 9 Miles Project teaches local young people to surf, manage properties, and run guest services
- Village maintenance — fixing roofs, maintaining public spaces, keeping our infrastructure working
- Community services — cleaning, maintenance, and concierge support for visiting guests
- Coastal preservation — protecting the wild coastline that makes Elandsbaai special
